How to Use Excalidraw Diagrams for Confluence

Excalidraw Diagrams for Confluence allows you to create and share hand-drawn style diagrams directly inside your Confluence pages. It’s ideal for brainstorming, process mapping, UI sketches, and other visual ideas without the complexity of traditional diagramming tools.

How to Use

Add an Excalidraw Diagram

  1. Open your Confluence page in Edit mode.

  2. Type /excalidraw or select Excalidraw Diagram from the macro menu.

  3. Click to insert it into the page.

Create Your Diagram

  1. Use the toolbar to draw shapes, arrows, and text.

  2. Apply colors and the hand-drawn effect for a sketched look.

  3. Group related shapes for cleaner layouts.

  4. Click Save to embed the diagram into your page.

Edit an Existing Diagram

  • Hover over the diagram and click the Edit (pencil) icon.

  • Make your changes in the editor.

  • Click Save to update the page.

Best Practices

  • Keep diagrams focused on one concept per diagram.

  • Use colors to emphasize important parts.

  • Add text labels to clarify each step or shape.

  • Avoid overly complex diagrams, split them into smaller ones if needed.

Known Limitations

  • Very large diagrams may require scrolling to view fully.

  • Diagram resolution may be slightly lower in preview mode compared to edit mode.
